CODENAMES - A "Marvel" of Fun!

July 16, 2018

If you are familiar with Codenames, then you might like to know that Codenames: Marvel Edition is not much different than the original edition. The goal in the game is to identify all of the opposite teams 'field agents' from the Code cards displayed. The game is manufactured by USAopoly, who has been producing games "with a twist" under license from Hasbro since 1994.  USAopoly® also has a "Disney Edition" available for all those Disney fans. (see below for locations on where to purchase Codenames.)

Through Tryazon, Littlemanbun and I put in to host a Codenames Marvel Game Night, and we were selected. Since Littlemanbun's 6th birthday was on the same weekend, we decided to combine the game night with his party. All of our guest stayed after his celebration to join us in some fun and game play with CODENAMES: Marvel Edition!

The game is great for families, and the recommended age is 9 and older. We had a very wide age range at the party from grown adults (oldest was 60) to the (youngest age 4); "Littlemanbun" just turned 6. The younger ones played, but required the help of adults. Suggested number of players was 4 - 8+, but as you can see we had a larger crowd; with adults helping the younger children.

When playing the game, I realized I knew very little about Marvel other than the most familiar characters, Spider-Man and the Avengers. But had it not been for watching some of the recent movies, I don't think I could have recognized the Avengers. Littlemanbun at age 6, knew a good bit of the characters and Daddy man bun was very impressed with his sons knowledge of them.

The game comes with: 200 Codename Cards, 40 Key Cards, 25 Cover Cards (8 S.H.I.E.L.D., 8 HYDRA, 7 Neutral, 1 Double Agent, 1 Thanos Assassin), 1 Card Stand and Instructions on how to play. The instructions are very in-depth and when first looking at them seem overwhelming, but when you take a minute to read you will understand the game to the fullest.

We had a wonderful time playing and even gained some knowledge of characters. Maybe with the next Marvel movie, I too can impress "daddy man bun."

I was very impressed with the game and USAopoly®, who also sent a second copy for us to use as a raffle. All those who stayed for game night put their names in a hat, and one lucky winner was drawn!

If you are planning a game night, or maybe your child is having a sleepover, or just having a "play date" Codenames:Marvel Edition (or even the Disney Edition) would be an excellent idea to have for them to play and is very much worth the purchase. Everyone will laugh and have a wonderful time.

This game is: LITTLEMANBUN APPROVED!
